Negative responses (ネガティブな返答)

I started learning English again since October last year. It was my first time since graduating from the university. In addition, it is my first time learning “live” English.

And soon, I realized interesting thing about Japanese people.

If foreign people, especially Americans, are asked like “how was your last weekend?” or “how was your day off?”, they usually reply positive things like “that was good!” or “I enjoyed it so much!”.

As for Japanese people, if they are asked the same things, the responses are almost always negative like
“Nothing.”
“Nothing special.”
“It was not so good.”
and then the conversation stops immediately.

I tried it some times to my co-workers and friends, and the results were always the same.

Jaaaapaneeeeese!!!
Why are you so neeeegatiiiiiiive!!!!𿘱

Uh, yes, I am Japanese too and I have been replying such negative thuff unconsciously. I didn’t realize it until I start learning English and communicate with foreign people. Unconscious behaviors are so scary...
